'എനിക്ക് നില്ക്കാന്‍ ഒരിടം തരൂ. ബലമുള്ള ഒരു കോലുകൊണ്ട് ഞാന്‍ ഭൂമിയെ പൊക്കി മാറ്റാം.' എന്നു പ്രസ്താവിച്ച് ലോകരെ അത്ഭുതപ്പെടുത്തിയ മഹാശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞനാണ് ആര്‍ക്കിമിഡീസ്. ക്രിസ്തുവിന് മുമ്പ് 287-ാം ആണ്ടിലാണ് ജനനം. ബാല്യത്തില്‍ തന്നെ കപ്പികളുപയോഗിച്ച് പല പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളും അദ്ദേഹം നടത്തി. ഉറപ്പിച്ച കപ്പിയും ഉറപ്പിക്കാത്ത കപ്പിയും ചേര്‍ത്ത് ഉപയോഗിച്ചാല്‍ ഭാരങ്ങള്‍ എളുപ്പത്തില്‍ ഉയര്‍ത്താമെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം മനസിലാക്കി. അങ്ങനെ പല പരീക്ഷണങ്ങളും പ്രദര്‍ശിപ്പിച്ച് ആര്‍ക്കിമിഡീസ് പ്രശസ്തനായി.ശാസ്ത്രം നിലനില്ക്കുന്നകാലത്തോളം ആര്‍ക്കിമിഡീസിന്റെ യശസ് നിലനില്‍ക്കും.
Archimedes
"Archimedes was the illustrious scientist who said about the crowbar," Give me a place to stand on and I will move the earth." It is believed that Archimedes was born in 287 BC, in Syracuse, Sicily. He has created invaluable impressions in the fields of mathematics, physics, engineering and astronomy. The principle he formulated as 'Archimedes principle' is very famous. The method he adopted to find out the purity of the gold crown of the king is really unique.

▶️ആറന്മുള കണ്ണാടി: 
ആറന്മുള വില്ലേജിലെ ഒരു കുടുംബം പ്രത്യേക ലോഹസങ്കരം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കൈകൊണ്ടു നിര്‍മിച്ചെടുക്കുന്നതും മുന്‍വശം പ്രതിപതനമുള്ളതുമായ ഒരു ദര്‍പ്പണമാണ് ആറന്മുള കണ്ണാടി. ചെമ്പിന്റേയും ടിന്നിന്റേയും ലോഹസങ്കരമാണ് ഇതിനുപയോഗിക്കുന്നതെന്നാണ് വിദഗ്ധാഭിപ്രായം. ഈ ലോഹക്കൂട്ട് നിര്‍മാണവുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട് പരമ്പരാഗതമായി ലഭിച്ച സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യ കുടുംബം പുറത്തുപറയാതെ സൂക്ഷിച്ചിരിക്കുകയാണ്. വിലപിടിപ്പുള്ള ഈ കണ്ണാടിക്ക് കേരള സംസ്‌കാരത്തില്‍ ഉയര്‍ന്ന സ്ഥാനമാണുള്ളത്.
Aranmula kannadi, is a handmade metal-alloy mirror, made in Aranmula, a small town in Pathanamthitta. Unlike the normal "silvered" glass mirrors, it is a metal-alloy mirror or front surface reflection mirror. The exact metals used in the alloy are maintained as a Vishwakarma family secret. Metallurgists suggest that the alloy is a mix of copper and tin. These unique metal mirrors are the result of Kerala's rich cultural and metallurgical traditions. 
▶️ആര്‍ക്കിമിഡിസ്:
പുരാതന ഗ്രീസിലെ മഹാന്മാരായ ശാസ്ത്രജ്ഞരില്‍ ഒരാളാണ് ആര്‍ക്കിമിഡീസ്. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ജീവിതകാലം ബി.സി. 287 മുതല്‍ 212 വരെയായിരുന്നു എന്നാണ് കരുതപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഗണിതശാസ്ത്രത്തിനുപുറമെ ഊര്‍ജതന്ത്രത്തിലും ജ്യോതിശാസ്ത്രത്തിലുമൊക്കെ അതുല്യമായ കണ്ടുപിടിത്തങ്ങള്‍ അദ്ദേഹം നടത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബി. സി. 214 - 212 കാലത്ത് റോമന്‍ സൈന്യം തന്റെ പട്ടണമായ സിറാകൂസിനെ ആക്രമിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ ആര്‍ക്കിമിഡിസ് വലിയ ഒരു കോണ്‍കേവ് ദര്‍പ്പണം ഉപയോഗിച്ച് സൂര്യരശ്മി കേന്ദ്രീകരിച്ച് ശത്രുക്കളുടെ കപ്പലുകള്‍ കരിച്ചു കളഞ്ഞുവത്രെ!
Archimedes was one of the famous scientists in ancient Greece. He is believed to have lived from BC 287 to 212. He made many unparalleled discoveries and inventions in Physics and Astronomy besides Mathematics. During BC 214-212, when the Roman soldiers attacked his town Syracuse, it is said that he burnt their ships focusing sunrays on them using a large concave mirror!
